Dear Lee,
Nautilus kit & package arrived; 4/12. Couldn't believe the quality!!! what fine craftsmanship!!! Sure am glad you improved on original, Love the gill vents, upper deck & "artistic license" to upper hull & wheelhouse. Almost had a "moment of intense personal release," ha, ha. I'm glad now You're closing it out, as I have now a truly limited edition of "one of a kind." Thanks so much for the gift of crewman!!!! Love what you did with wheelhouse eyes & saloon view ports & domes, wheelhouse steps & hatches. What an outstanding model of your workmanship, this kit will become. I cant thank you enough for making a "dream" of mine come to life. Never thought in all these years since childhood I’d ever see a model of this boat ever come to the public, glad now I have a 'puter. Harper & Tom must be very proud of your love & dedication to their "boat" & proud of You!!! this is really a work of art!!! Please keep me informed of new stuff with email, I'll keep a watch on your site.
Thank you again!!
Very Best Regards
Your Friend, Dave Haley
Dear Lee:
I just got back from the post office with the first of my three "Nautilus" kits, in this case, the waterline version of the model.
I had to write and tell you, when I opened the box, I was totally blown away... pictures do not do this beauty justice! You are a truly gifted sculptor and model maker, and I am very proud to own one of your works! I am very much looking forward to assembling and finishing it.
This waterline version will be the centerpiece of a huge-scale diorama of Captain Nemo's dockyard hidden within the volcanic crater. The diorama itself will be used as a terrain table to replay the climactic raid on Nemo's base by colonial forces at the end of the film. We will be using war game skirmish rules likewise inspired by Jules Verne, and the event itself will most likely be held next year at Historicon in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
The two full sized kits will go one to a very dear friend of mine, and talented model builder, while the other will hold pride of place on the mantle of the fireplace in my downstairs game room.
As I said before, pictures do not do justice to your work; this model is spectacular without a single drop of paint! However, with your permission, once it is done I will send along some digital photos of the finished kit, as well as the diorama.
Once again, thank you for a wonderful rendering of Goff's brilliantly imagined vessel. I am very glad that you are "up and running" again, and I look forward to your future projects.
Yours truly,
Don Hawthorne
