Welcome to the Drawing Board.
This is where I discuss the details of my new and upcoming projects.
My newest creation is of what might have been the first American submarine, built in 1775, which may have actually sank British ships in the war of independence. This wonderful kit includes two different ways the "Turtle" may have been built By David Bushnell and his older brother. The price will be $65 plus postage. The kit will only produce one version with the included parts. Date for availability is July 1, 2009 Click HERE to go directly to the Turtle page.
Many historians doubt that the TURTLE submarine ever existed at all and was a fictional story meant to scare British ship captains. This is supported by a battle tactic of the colonies in which torpedoes were floated down the James River and out into the harbor where they exploded when contacting a ship at anchor. The intent was to convince the British navy that they were being stalked by a new secret weapon.
Another interesting page in this history is that there was an actual Turtle submarine built of brass and copper, not wood as is so often supposed. This is supported by brass objects found that originally thought to be beer vats at first or some kind of large cooking vessels. These objects were later catalogued as “Unknown metal cooking vessels” and soon forgotten. It turns out that these items had the very same dimensions as the TURTLE SUBMARINE was supposed to have, with various holes in the sides that were remarkably like the holes for the propellers, auger and rudder controls.
This kit also includes a wonderful illustrated pamphlet with a historical background and an assortment of illustrations of what the vessel was supposed to look like.
Other works in progress:
This model will feature a working turret and drive screw. More details will be posted here soon along with photos of the master model in progress. This large model will be must-have item for any Civil War buff to add to their collection.
BMW ME262:
The BMW ME262 was the first fully operational jet engine in production. This kit will add a new level of realism to scale jet models or stand alone as a wonder of mid 20th century technology.
Models from the 'Creature from the Black Lagoon':
Long a favorite of mine, in 1954 Universal Pictures released the 97 minute film: "Creature from the Black Lagoon". Strangely enough in 1933 Alfred S. Romer published a Devonian Monograph # 67 that describes a newly discovered species named Ichthyosapien-Amazonia. The monograph details the history of south American history and the biology of this animal which is the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Each kit will include this detailed monograph. The first kit is a full-sized replica of the fossil hand seen in the movie. The second is a one foot tall Creature which can be posed in any of it’s natural poses. The monograph details every aspect of Creature biology and all the historic explorers who discovered the area where the Creature lived.
The kit poses the question: did the movie makers use the monograph and the discovery of a real live creature or did some one build the monograph of the Creature from the movie. The client will have to decide this for them selves.
The kits and instructions are all pointed to creating a life like figure with all the information needed to produce a model that can suspend disbelief knowing all along that it is a Sci-Fi figure.
These kits is scheduled for release in the fall of 2010.
Estimated price of each kit: $56.99+shipping
And don't forget my current models - The Incredible Nautilus Submarine and the museum quality T-Rex fossil.
